Icon White Spot and Fluorosis Removal Treatment is the first step to achieving a brand new you.
What Icon Resin Infiltration White Spot Removal Treats
Icon works on white spots caused by:
-
Dental fluorosis — chalky white flecks, streaks or patches from excess fluoride exposure during childhood tooth development
-
Post-orthodontic white spot lesions — the demineralised marks left around where brackets sat after braces come off
-
Enamel hypomineralisation — including mild MIH (molar incisor hypomineralisation) affecting the front teeth
-
Mild enamel hypoplasia — developmental defects in the enamel surface
-
Early demineralisation — white lesions that haven't progressed to a cavity
Icon works best on surface-level white spots on the front teeth. Deeper lesions, heavily discoloured enamel, or spots with active decay may need a different approach — and we'll tell you honestly at the consult if that's your situation rather than treating you regardless.
Icon white spot removal at Bare Smiles Dental Essendon Melbourne starts from $350 per tooth.
What you'll actually pay depends on how many teeth need treating. Most patients treat one to four teeth — white spots are rarely spread across the whole smile, and we only treat what needs treating.
-
Single tooth: from $350
-
Multiple teeth: quoted at your consult
-
Afterpay: available, so you can split the cost interest-free
-
Consultation: we assess suitability and give you a fixed quote before anything starts
For context, composite veneers on the same teeth typically run several times that, and porcelain veneers several times again — with permanent removal of healthy enamel as part of the deal. Icon removes nothing.

How Much Does Icon Treatment Cost in Melbourne?
A no-drill treatment for white spots, fluorosis and post-braces marks.
Icon is a micro-invasive resin infiltration treatment that treats white spots from the inside of the enamel — no drilling, no needles, no veneers. At Bare Smiles Dental Boutique in Essendon, Icon white spot removal treatment starts from $350 per tooth and is usually completed in a single visit.

Most patients come to us after being told their only options were veneers or "just live with it." Icon is neither.
What Are White Spots on Teeth?

Icon is a treatment system made by DMG, a German dental manufacturer, and it works on a completely different principle to every other cosmetic option for white spots.

A white spot is not a stain sitting on top of the tooth — it's a patch of enamel with microscopic pores under the surface. Those pores scatter light differently to the healthy enamel around them, and that difference in light behaviour is what your eye reads as "white."

Icon doesn't cover the spot and it doesn't grind it off. A low-viscosity resin is drawn into those pores by capillary action and sets inside them. Once the pores are filled, the enamel refracts light the same way as the tooth around it — and the spot visually disappears into the surrounding enamel.

For white spots on the front-facing surfaces of the teeth, we use Icon Vestibular, the version of the system designed for smooth visible surfaces.
What Is Icon Resin Infiltration?
The Icon Treatment Process, Step by Step
The whole appointment usually takes under an hour per tooth, and most patients need no anaesthetic at all.

1. Assessment and shade check
We photograph and assess the spots, confirm Icon is suitable, and discuss whether whitening first would improve the final result. In some cases evening out the surrounding shade before Icon gives a noticeably better blend.

Dry and preview
The area is dried with ethanol. This is the step patients love: while the tooth is dry, you get a live preview of roughly what the final result will look like. If the spot doesn't disappear at this stage, we etch again rather than pushing on and hoping.

2. Isolation
The tooth is cleaned and isolated with a rubber dam to keep the surface completely dry. Moisture control is the single biggest factor in a good Icon result, so this step matters more than it looks.

Infiltrate
The Icon resin is applied and drawn into the enamel pores by capillary action, then given time to penetrate fully. A second application follows to compensate for shrinkage.

3. Etch
A hydrochloric acid etching gel is applied for a short time to open the surface layer of the white spot so resin can reach the pores beneath. This removes only a few microns of surface enamel - far less than a polish.

Cure and polish
The resin is light-cured and the surface polished back to a natural lustre.
You leave the same day with an even, natural-looking surface. No downtime, no temporary restorations, nothing to come back for.
